Will this shoe drop before election day? The New York Times asked Obama, Biden, McCain and Palin for their medical records. Obama and Biden said yes, but McCain and Palin said no. McCain's reasons are obvious. If his melanoma has not recorred already it is likely to do so in the future. He released some records to the press but reporters were not allowed to make copies of them.
As for Palin, what reason could she possibly have not to turn over her records? If she does they will show that she has given birth to four kids, not five. Trig is her daughter Bristol's child. You heard it here first.

Colin Powell Endorses Barack Obama
“Colin Powell is the most powerful and damaging black to rise to influence in the world in my lifetime.”

Robinson spoke too quickly. In 2004 who knew that Barack Obama would be on the verge of being elected president. Powell now has competition for Robinson's condemnation.
Robinson was speaking of Colin Powell's dirty work in the Bush administration to overthrow Jean Bertrand Aristide, the elected president of Haiti. Powell lied to members of the Congressional Black Caucus, who were forced to bumb rush the White House and get an audience with Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Bush. All three lied in their faces. They promised not to undermine Aristide but two days later they orchestrated a coup and a kidnapping against him.
Powell has a lot of blood on his hands. The year before he helped destroy Haiti, he led the charge for the U.S. to invade and occupy Iraq. Chris Floyd describes Powell's perfidy.

It is little wonder that today Powell announced his endorsement of Obama. They are a perfect pair. One works behind the scenes, the other wants the top job.
The progressives who have fawned over Obama are still fawning tonight. A Powell endorsement ought to be the kiss of death, but liberals have silently colluded with Obama all year long. Why should they stop now? So what if the architect of death and destruction in Iraq has endorsed their beloved leader.? They just want to win. They want their guy to be at the top of the killing food chain. Any pretense of progressive politics is just that.

Cindy McCain

So the McCains are separated, not hard to do when you have eight homes. I don't really care, but the media have no problem picking and choosing whom they will scrutinize and whom they will not. The New York Times wrote a truly tawdry, unseemly article on Bill and Hillary Clinton last year, claiming that the public were interested in their private lives, a specious argument at best.
"Four other senators were implicated, and one Senate spouse: Mrs. McCain. She and her father had invested in a shopping center with Mr. Keating, and while Mr. McCain insisted that he had reimbursed Mr. Keating for vacations their families had taken together in the Bahamas, he said his wife, the family bookkeeper, could not find the receipts."
Remember the Keating scandal? It was yesteryear's financial crisis, with the taxpayers bailing out the savings and loan industry. McCain used his influence to help one crook in particular, Charles Keating. I had never read before that Cindy McCain and her family had a personal interest in this scandal, so the Times was correct in pointing it out.
Glenn Greenwald, who alternates between good investigative journalism and useless namby pamby liberalism, takes the Times to task for the story. I disagree strongly. Candidates for public office give up their privacy, and someone who has half-siblings yet describes herself as an only child ought to be called on her lie. The Times pointed out that the McCains lie about their private life when they claim to be a married couple and that his wife profited from the savings and loan thievery. Cindy McCain has also injected herself into the campaign, it was she who first posited that Alaska's proximity to Russia gave Sarah Palin foreign policy credentials.
Greenwald and his ilk are a huge problem. He did great reporting on Obama's FISA treachery, but then rejected the notion that progressives ought to withhold support from him because of it. We should just accept the loss of our constitutional rights, hold our noses, and vote for the "lesser" of two evils. Although if democratic presidential candidates think we have no fourth amendment rights, their evil isn't any less.
At any rate, I'm glad the times exposed the Cindy McCain fraud.

Wish I'd Said That
"To me, Obama's friendship with Ayers and Dohrn means that once he rubbed shoulders with amateur bombers, but now pines for the Real Fucking Deal. As president, Obama will have access to weapons that ancient radicals could only imagine while tripping. Better, he's free to use them, hell, expected to use them, and I have complete confidence that Obama will do just that. Instead of mailing cryptic messages to the media, he'll announce his murderous intentions on international television and all over the Web. So Obama palled around with people who blew up parts of empty buildings. If you desire to be the imperial manager, you gotta start somewhere."

Is John McCain Sick?
John McCain never looked well. Lately he has looked very ill indeed. This two week old video from Crooks and Liars clearly shows that his left eye seemed to be drooping, which can be a symptom of stroke, among other conditions.
Counterpunch has received reports that McCain's melanoma has recurred, and that he may be receiving radiation treatments.
"An official in the National Institutes of Health, well known to our reader, has confided to her that in an informal conversation with a doctor in a California hospital the NIH official had learned that there had been a metastasis of McCain’s melanoma, and that this had come to light in a checkup in the past few weeks."
John McCain has not released his medical records to the press, but this is nothing new. In 2004 Bush skipped his August physical until after election day and when Reagan ran for re-election in 1984 he already knew that he had colon cancer but kept that fact from the public.
If the corporate media did their job, they would demand that presidential candidates release all medical records. Of course, many things would be different if they lived up to the title journalist, but I digress. McCain is sick, and it should have come to light sooner.
He is behind in every poll, and if reports of illness become more wide spread it is safe to say that he will lose. Of course, the thought of President Palin is taking a toll on his poll numbers too. If he should pass away in the near future, there ought to be a public outcry about the story that should have been. Oh wait, I'm sorry. No one cries out anymore. I forgot myself.

What's the Rush?
"The situation may get urgent, but it's not urgent right now. Right now it's a financial sector problem.''
That is what 150 economists say about the proposed $700 billion bailout/giveaway to Wall Street. They outlined their concerns in a letter to Congressional leaders and warned them not to be stampeded into doing further harm to the economy.
In this week's Black Agenda Report I expressed my fears that the give away is the first step in stealing from the national treasury. We will be told that social security, the only safety net Americans have, must be privatized or that spending on non-defense related programs has to go.
One of the signatories of the letter, David K. Levine of Washington University, had a more disturbing observation about recent market activity or rather inactivity. "I suspect that part of what we're seeing in the freezing up of lending markets is strategic behavior on the part of big financial players who stand to benefit from the bailout."
Hat tip goes to Arthur Silber, who as always makes the point that the ruling class are doing what they always do. They are ruling the rest of us. Just assume the position, like politicians tell you to do. Barack Obama says that ". . . issues like bankruptcy reform, which are very important to Democrats, is probably something that we shouldn't try to do in this piece of legislation." Of course not, that would mean answering to working people instead of the corporate masters who control both political parties.
Michael Hudson points out that the only way for the give away plot to work is for another bubble to be created. It isn't possible to make money for Wall Street while also helping Americans facing foreclosure. "In order for the existing junk mortgages to be “made good,” real estate prices must be raised further above the ability to pay for this year’s five million homeowners in arrears and facing default."
That is really not very shocking. It is just the ruling class doing what they always do. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Ahmadinejad on Larry King
I used to sneer at Larry King. He is king of the puff piece interview, whether his subject is a presidential candidate or a celebrity promoting a tell all memoir.
You can imagine my surprise when I turned on the tube last Tuesday and saw King interviewing Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for the full hour of his program.
King wasn't much better than he usually is, but so what. Ahmadinejad was allowed to speak for himself and tell the American people what they ought to know but don't.
"Now for eight years, Saddam was supported against us. He bombarded Iranian cities and towns. He used chemical weapons against us. And in the meantime, the American government was giving support to Saddam. And then the U.S. government went and overthrew Saddam. Well, perhaps in the first instance, we might have been happy. But when we realized that the U.S. government is more interested in staying in Iraq and to dominate, through its presence in Iraq, the region, we -- I ask you, would you have been happy if you were in our shoes watching this?"
"The largest number of inspections in the history of the IAEA has been done with the country of Iran. We have offered the IAEA the largest number of documents in its history. No country in the world has cooperated with the agency as much as Iran has done. And that's verified. But I'd like to ask you, at the same, that there are countries who have nuclear weapons arsenals and are actually developing a new age nuclear warfare. Should they not be inspected, as well? Don't you think that their activities should be brought to an end, as well? Who exactly is the threat?"

We depend on stand up comedians like David Letterman and John Stewart to give us the news and now we depend on Larry King to give access to an important world leader when supposedly superior news people won't. Viva Larry!

Baby Mama Drama
Alaska governor Sarah Palin didn't deny the rumors that her infant son is actually her daughter's child. She did announce that her 17 year old daughter is pregnant now and will be getting married. Okey dokey.
I'm still unconvinced. Just look at this, the Sarah Palin's Pregnancy Decision Map. Maybe it just proves that she is dumb, but I like my scandal and I'm ging to stick with it.
I am also going to stick with saying that this is a relevant campaign issue. Governor Abstinence Only has a pregnant teenager. Every study has shown that abstinence only is a failure and there is no reason to dance around the issue. Also, Palin could have chosen to save her pregnant daughter this scrutiny, but like other narcissists, i.e. politicians, she chose to grab the spotlight.
I think more shoes are going to drop on Palin and it is too late for McCain to choose someone else. They must be nominated this week. He is stuck with her and if he wins, we will be too. We are just so screwed.

Palin Eight Months Pregnant?
If the story is true, Sarah Palin is eight months pregnant in this video. Can women about to deliver cross their legs and sit forward? Hmmm. Mommies please tell me. She also says nothing about being on the verge of having a new baby. The plot thickens.
Is Palin's Baby Her Daughter's?

On the other hand, her daughter Bristol was apparently away from school for months with 'mono.' "

I didn't write in the month of August and now that Labor Day approaches I am finding myself very far behind indeed. I haven't written much about John McCain's choice of little known Alaskan governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. I'm not sure what to think about whether or not she helps him. She can help by giving an out to the racists who won't admit that they still have "questions" about Obama because he is black. They can now claim righteousness by voting for a woman. On the other hand, the pro-Hillary white women who were drawn to her by feminist aspiration will be insulted. Why would they vote for an anti-abortion creationist who doesn't believe global warming is a problem?
All of these questions are now dwarfed by a now viral internet rumor. The governor has a four month old baby with Downs syndrome. She said that she and her husband new the baby had that disability but that they brought the pregnancy to term because of their pro-life beliefs.
I thought it kind of odd that someone with four kids ranging in age from 19 to 7 would have a new child, but we all know an "oops" baby or two.
According to this fast moving rumor, the baby isn't hers at all. The baby belongs to her daughter, Bristol, who is now 17. Consider the facts. The most mysterious part of the story, is the birth itself. The governor was in Texas where she says her water broke. Did she go to a hospital there? No, she got on a plane for the eight hour ride back to Alaska.
Will the corporate media take on this story or will they leave it to the National Enquirer? It shouldn't be too hard to get the facts. There has to be a birth certificate. There has to be a physician listed as delivering the baby.
If true, the story is worth covering because it reveals the rank hypocrisy of the Republicans and the Christian right. It would be hard to publicly acknowledge a teenager's pregnancy, but that is what pro-family types ought to do. She would have been better off saying that the baby would be welcomed into the family instead of creating a bizarre tale.
One thing is certain. McCain was desperate and didn't vet Palin. He only met with her once. And why would she say yes with this enormous skeleton in her closet? I guess for the same reason that John Edwards campaigned for president while simultaneously praying that the Riuelle Hunter shoe wouldn't drop. Politicians are very sick people.

I didn't write in the month of August and now that Labor Day approaches I am finding myself very far behind indeed. I haven't written much about John McCain's choice of little known Alaskan governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. I'm not sure what to think about whether or not she helps him. She can help by giving an out to the racists who won't admit that they still have "questions" about Obama because he is black. They can now claim righteousness by voting for a woman. On the other hand, the pro-Hillary white women who were drawn to her by feminist aspiration will be insulted. Why would they vote for an anti-abortion creationist who doesn't believe global warming is a problem?
All of these questions are now dwarfed by a now viral internet rumor. The governor has a four month old baby with Downs syndrome. She said that she and her husband new the baby had that disability but that they brought the pregnancy to term because of their pro-life beliefs.
I thought it kind of odd that someone with four kids ranging in age from 19 to 7 would have a new child, but we all know an "oops" baby or two.

Israeli defense contractors are Colombia's number one arms supplier and work hand in hand to destabilize Hugo Chavez in neighboring Venezuela. They are now directly involved in America's effort to use Georgia to start a shooting war against Russia.

Sen. Biden Brags: My State was a Slave State
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.... I mean, that's a storybook, man." Remember that quote? The headlines ought to read, "Racist senator chosen as Obama's running mate."
Sorry I'm not writing much now, I planned to take all of August off from writing but the world intrudes. Biden is just God awful, a war mongering gaffe prone, loose cannon who chooses to claim slavery among his political bona fides.
Black people are in for the worst butt whooping since Jim Crow, but this week most will celebrate themselves silly as Obama hang glides into Mile High stadium with the horrible Biden by his side.
I'll have more to say later this week.

Obama Sucks Up, to Rumsfeld
I posted this back on July 8th, thought you might like to see for yourself. Obama was a world class suck up from day one. Of course, he sucked up to the right people, the rich and powerful ones and he did it well. If he becomes president that will be the reason why.

A Message from Diop Olugbala
What About the Black Community, Obama? On Friday, August 1st I led a contingent of the Uhuru Movement into Barack Obama’s town hall meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida to raise the question, “what about the black community, Obama?” Without the benefit of a big media budget, our organization attempted to bring the serious issues experienced by African working class people across this country into the national political debate.
These issues include the targeting of African and Latino communities with predatory “sub-prime” mortgages – a scheme that has made millions for people like Obama’s chief financial advisor Penny Pritzker, while stripping black families of billions of dollars, the greatest loss of wealth our community has suffered since being brought in chains to this country. We also challenged Obama to take a stand against the police shootings of unarmed African people, and explain why he has publicly defended the judge’s acquittal of the NYC police who murdered Sean Bell.
He has said that he cannot speak out on behalf of those who have been historically oppressed for fear of offending other people. Yet in Miami, he promised the Jewish community, which considers itself a historically oppressed community, that he supports turning all of Jerusalem over to Israeli control, despite the internationally enforced sharing of that city with the Palestinians. When Obama speaks to black audiences, he attacks us, attributing our community’s poverty, not to systemic oppression, but to bad culture and lack of work ethic.
Barack Obama has criticized African fathers for abandoning our children, although a recent study showed that black fathers stay more involved with their children after a split from the mother than white fathers. And Obama says nothing of the unjust imprisonment of 1 in 9 black men of child-bearing age, the overwhelming majority of whom are locked up on minor drug or other non-violent economic violations stemming from conditions of desperate poverty. He has failed to achieve any meaningful program of economic development for the African community. In speaking to a group of black legislators, Obama said “a good economic development plan for our community would be if we make sure folks weren’t throwing their garbage out of their cars.”
Barack Obama wants to increase military spending and praised Clinton for abolishing AFDC and welfare. He has reversed his position opposing the death penalty and speaks out against reparations. He wants to escalate the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan and has threatened Venezuela and Iran with military aggression. He has upheld the FISA, supporting wire-tapping and government spying on citizens. He receives unprecedented financial backing from Wall Street. His close advisors and potential cabinet members include war criminal Richard Clarke, Tri-lateral commission founder Zbigniev Brzezinski, Madeleine ‘it’s worth the price of 1 million dead Iraqi children’ Albright, and Free Trade advocates Jason Furman and Austan Goolsbee.
Some argue that we must support Obama or else we are supporting McCain. We in the Uhuru Movement don’t believe our community should restrict our political options to a choice between one white ruling class party or another. In fact, the black community’s most recent experiences in the U.S. electoral arena have resulted not only in the Republican Party’s theft of our votes, but prior to that we suffered some of the worst attacks on our community at the hands of the Democratic Party administration of William Jefferson Clinton, who put 100,000 more police on our streets to murder our people, privatized the prisons to exploit our unpaid labor, and discontinued the public subsidies for impoverished children and families that had been won by African people as a concession to our movement of the 1960s.
African people’s experiences with these last several elections and the desperate conditions facing our community have created a willingness by our people to seek independent political alternatives. In response to this crisis, the white rulers put forward Barack Obama – a pied piper taking African people back into clutches of the Democratic Party. If anyone looks seriously at the positions, programs and advisors of Barack Obama, they will see that he does not stand for any kind of real change, but for the defense of the same old status quo, with a new face. America is in an economic crisis and the white ruling class hopes to save itself by deepening the exploitation of African people in the U.S. and on the continent of Africa, where the world’s biggest reserves of oil and precious minerals lie. How better to do it than with an African face at the head of state?
Our success as a people requires that we achieve our own independent political agenda. African people’s votes should be contingent on the willingness of a candidate to support and fight for that agenda. The International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement has invited Barack Obama, John McCain and Cynthia McKinney to attend our annual convention on September 27-28 in St. Petersburg, Florida to clarify their position on the question, “what about the black community?’ Based on their response, we will consider endorsement of a U.S. presidential candidate.

Diop Olugbala and the International Peoples Democratic Uhuru Movement
"What about the black community?" That simple question from a Florida protester gave the sainted one a case of the jitters. It is high time he had some.
Never heard of Olugbala or his group, but they gave Obama the only true smack down he has gotten this year. All hail Olugbala and the Uhuru Movement! I have never seen Obama stutter and stammer the way he did when confronted by protest. Be still my heart. I'm going to post the You Tube videos, hopefully. I have been having problems with that lately.
Olugbala's words are simple, but speak volumes about Obama and his decision to ignore black people because he knows that he can.
"So my question is, in the face of the numerous attacks that are made against the African community or the black community by the same U.S. government that you aspire to lead, we are talking about attacks like the subprime mortgage that you spoke of that wasn't just a general or ambiguous kind of phenomenon but a phenomenon that targeted the African community and Latino Community.
Attacks like the killing of Sean Bell by the New York police department and Jevon Dawson right here in St. Petersburg by the St. Pete police and the Jena Six and Hurricane Katrina. The list goes on.
In the face of all these attacks that are clearly being made on the African community why is it that you have not had the ability to not one time, speak to the interest and even speak on behalf of the oppressed and exploited African community or the black community in this country?"
